Manual Fire Detection Systems
Manual fire detection systems allow individuals to trigger alarms via strategically placed manual call points throughout a building. When activated, these call points alert the control panel, which then activates specific emergency support systems based on their location, executing pre-programmed actions to manage the emergency.
Siting of Manual Call Points
– Manual call points should be located within 30 meters for building occupants and 45 meters for external areas.
– In high-risk zones, the distance may need to be reduced to less than 30 meters.
– Call points must be mounted at 1.4 meters above floor level, in well-lit, accessible locations free from obstructions.
– In long corridors, they should be surface-mounted or semi-recessed, ensuring a visible side profile of at least 750 mm.
Mandatory Locations for Manual Call Points:
1. Each floor level
2. Each notification zone
3. Each elevator cab
4. Elevator lobbies
5. Elevator machine rooms
6. Emergency and standby power rooms
7. Fire pump rooms
8. Areas of refuge
9. Inside each enclosed exit stair
10. Other areas as required by the authority having jurisdiction
Notes:
Automatic smoke detectors can be prone to false alarms. To avoid confusion, it is recommended that manual call points be distinctly indicated in the control equipment, separate from detectors in zones protected by both systems.
- When manual call point is activated , the call point built-in LED illuminates steadily in red.
- The control panel then displays the device ID, device location, zone ID, and zone location, accompanied by the fire alarm tone on the panel speaker.
