NXSFS01 - Standard for Addressable Manually Operated Fire Alarm System (MOEFA)

According to the National Building Code (NBC) 2016, a Manually Operated Fire Alarm System is defined as comprising the following components:
1. Manual Call Point Fire Signaling System
2. Public Address (PA) System
3. Talkback Speaker System

The NBC also outlines requirements for the integration of electromechanical systems, voice alarm systems, and other related elements.

Traditional or conventional engineering techniques for MOEFA and automatic fire detection systems often face challenges in ensuring full compliance with NBC standards. Therefore, Connexxity’s guidelines are based on Addressable Systems to address these challenges effectively.

Standards for Achieving MOEFA Compliance:

1. NXSFS04 – Standard for Addressable Manual Call Point Fire Signaling System
2. NXSFS05 – Standard for Addressable Public Address System
3. NXSFS06 – Standard for Addressable Talkback System

For small-scale applications, these three systems can share a single cable and control panel.

For medium and large-scale applications, the Talkback System should be autonomous to ensure optimal performance.

If the Talkback speaker is used for both PA and Talkback applications, the following volume limits must be adhered to:
Talkback Mode: Maximum volume of 65 dB
PA Mode: Maximum volume of 90 dB

Once the PA or Talkback system is commissioned, no further modifications or adjustments should be allowed by FCC operators to ensure system integrity and compliance.

NBC 2016 Requirements:

– Voice alarms must be used instead of hooters or sirens, in English, Hindi, or local languages.
– Alarms should include flashing lights.
– Access controlled doors and emergency lighting must deactivate automatically during alarms.

Important Considerations:

– All fire warning system cables and instruments must have fault monitoring systems.
– Cables must be mechanically and fire-resistant to ensure functionality during fires.

Additional Recommendations:

– Regularly monitor the health of fire detection and warning equipment, including speakers and talkback systems.
– Avoid using systems that do not meet these standards, such as lifestyle commercial speaker systems or those lacking fault monitoring.

Items Used For MOEFA:
