NXSFS06 - Standard for Addressable Talkback System
Addressability:
The control panel shall be addressable, enabling quick identification and control of each connected Talkback Speaker. Each speaker shall be assigned a unique address, which will be displayed on the control panel for immediate reference.
Distance and Cable Specifications:
– The loop’s capacity is also influenced by the distance between the control panel and the farthest Talkback Speaker. Longer cable runs introduce signal degradation and voltage drop, which can affect performance.
– Cable type, gauge, and quality play an important role in determining the effective capacity of the loop. Thicker cables with low resistance are typically preferred for longer distances to maintain signal strength and power delivery.
System Scalability:
– Talkback systems should be designed with scalability in mind, allowing for easy addition of more Talkback Speakers to the loop as needed. However, the total load (current draw and power requirements) must not exceed the system’s maximum loop capacity, which is usually specified by the manufacturer.
– To accommodate more speakers, system designers may need to install additional loops or upgrade the power supply to handle the increased load.
Mandatory Placement Considerations for Talkback Speaker Units
Talkback speakers must be installed at the following locations in accordance with safety codes and regulations:
- Each floor level
- Each notification zone
- Each elevator cab
- Elevator lobbies
- Elevator machine rooms
- Emergency and standby power rooms
- Fire pump rooms
- Areas of refuge
- Each floor level inside an enclosed exit stairs
- Other rooms or areas as required by the authority having jurisdiction.
